I haven’t played much of the “story” mode of the game, but I imagine it offers more of the same. With most tetris versus modes when you get a double, triple, or tetris, an appropriate number of rows will appear under your opponents stack, thrusting their upwards towards the spikes. In versus mode there is also a spiked ceiling that slowly descends towards your pieces the longer you play the game. You goal is to either get him to the bottom by creating an opening large enough for him to slip through, or keeping him alive longer than your opponent by not allowing him to touch the spikes. In the versus mode there is a archeologist type character who dances and walks around on the top of your Tetris stack. You can play classic Tetris in one or two player mode, and also a versus mode that mixes things up a bit. That being said, Tetis Plus is a great game for Tetris fans looking to play classic Tetris on their PS1, PS2, or PS3.
I also bought with it ‘The Next Tetris’ by Atari, which I didn’t find as entertaining or classic as Tetris Plus mainly due to the attempt at making the graphics “next gen”. I bought this game looking for a way to play classic Tetris on PS3. Its basically the same as puzzle mode when you complete at least a double your opponent gets blo. Maybe I don’t understand puzzle mode but it wasn’t the main reason I got the game. I don’t really like puzzle mode, the professor always seems to want to climb right up into the spikes. There are spikes at the top that get lower over time and if he touches them you lose.
There is a guy (the professor) that will climb up any blocks you drop on him. I would have liked the option to have classic mode be just like how Tetris was on nes or Gameboy, that would have been perfect. I think it may have to do with how many lines you get in a level but I’m not entirely sure.
Sometimes you go up a level and the pieces don’t go much fast and sometime there is a huge increase speed between levels. The speed increase between levels is difficult to determine. The levels now increase based on time (shown by a bar on the side of the area you build up) and how many lines you complete, rather than just every ten lines. Classic mode is a little different than before. It says classic mode and puzzle mode are single player only but that is not true, they are both 2 player. I got the game mostly for its multiplayer functions and the game was very inexpensive ( less than $2 as of early 2018). This is the only Tetris game I’ve played other than the original on Gameboy and it holds up fairly well to the original.
